Motivational interviewing is not only associated with better retention and outcomes for the people you serve, it has been found to improve job satisfaction for staff. All of these benefits, however, depend on the staff person being able to use MI at a competent level, and is takes most people more than just a few training sessions to get there. Moreover, competency in the model, once achieved, tends to fade over time if efforts are not made to maintain the skills gained.

Many agencies and programs, desiring to help their staff do the best work possible, are interested in not only training them in MI, but building in structures to support lasting fidelity to the approach.
